In life, we all have a choice to make.

You can either give up, or get up.

Welcome to Soul City

Soul City Boxing Club is an anti-gang and anti-violence organization that is located in the central city of Toledo Ohio. Roshawn Jones is the boxing and wrestling coach and a former High School wrestler. In the neighborhood, only 37% of parents are high school graduates and 70% of the children come from single parent households. Soul City provides a safe and stable place for kids of all ages to go after school and on the weekend. Since its inception in 2008, Soul City has been able to successfully contribute to a 30% drop in crime on Junction Avenue in the heart of Toledo.

Boxing & Wrestling

Boxing and wrestling teach youth how to control their anger and direct there feelings into something productive. They teach team work and respect for coaches and adults. Most of all, they provide structure and discipline in the lives of kids who may otherwise not have it at home.

Behaviorial Modification Program

The kids at Soul City are able to participate in this program with the support of volunteers which helps with anger and other emotional issues. Kids are encouraged to participate in the behavior health program, and in turn, get to practice wrestling for free.

Other Activities

The classroom area of the gym is provided for students to study and complete their homework assignments with the support of volunteers. Yoga is also offered on Monday and Tuesday evenings to relax the mind, and also balance out the strength training with flexibility.

Defeat is a state of mind; No one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality.

Join Our Team

We welcome volunteers and new members every day

Our volunteer opportunities go beyond coaching and activities related to boxing and wrestling. You can contribute by helping our kids with their homework, teaching them a skill or mentoring them. We are always looking for people to help us in our important mission of bettering our community.
